To be of high value what to accomplish and what to be?

I have wondered what is needed to be of high value in society. What society values highly in a person, what is valuable for a person and in a person who has achieved appreciation, has been noticed as a maker. What gets noticed as we seem to seek getting noticed? We do not get appreciation just being alive, we have to make a life, a face and become visible. To have done something in life that can be appreciated is what all people want. Life worth living and be proud of. What I wonder where does the appreciation come from, what is it, how it is given, granted since it is there to be given after having done something valuable to all, something all can see. What is worth while to connect with, something to relate to, follow, get to know and idolize?
How egoist one has to be in world today and is good to be is good to ask and bear in mind the extent of ego one has and what does it mean to have an ego. Without ego we do not manage to make ourselves, to be individuals and it appears we need to be egoists to fit in in contemporary society, to be part of egoist culture that appreciates those who take their place regardless of what there may be in their way, regardless if the goal if worth having.
To be an independent actor, artist, ego is something that one has to work with, to have a strong self-reliance, confidence to stand behind one’s actions and art is essential. Artist therefore has to be able to produce possibly without constructive feedback, alone with only oneself as coach and mentor and to trust making pieces of art for the public, if they wish to have them. Work without anybody telling what to do, without someone telling when, how, where and so forth. Art has high value in contemporary society, high art especially. Such high place can be a dead-end for art. To evolve and become high as high is noted as good, it is a wrong place for some reason. There are more rules, policing, codes, barriers, complex relations and silent contracts that make art in high become less, distant, expensive and losing part of its purpose. Art is noted in news papers when it has news value. The more people are interested and the more money art attracts the more valuable it is to news papers. Everything revolves around money and how to make it. To ask again what to accomplish as an artist in this kind of stage and age?

Discipline is high virtue. In a world where strictness is a negative trait results are rather alarming and we get what we become accustomed to which is often pure bs.

Disciplined to work, to concentrate, to study, to have a plan to follow, to go one’s own path regardless of what others may say and think. Strictness is in today’s world a negative outlook to oneself and to others demanding something maybe too much because why bother. This is the attitude I hear and see very often and I do not wonder one bit people think they are more clever than they actually are. What is too much to know and master one can ask, too much to ask for someone to accomplish and become? To have discipline and order of strictness has an echo of an old world in which students and children are and were pushed into corner and become just like adults are and were: to be in control of their desires, well-mannered, hard-working, obedient, God-fearing lawful citizens believing authorities know what they are doing and are trustworthy.

Working alone in a craft (art and writing) which take an awful lot of work to master, one has to have a goal set to where one is aiming, which goal is to become better and better at it and far better at one’s craft than one can imagine to be. So it is kind of surprise how far one can go. We never know for sure and certainly people around telling what is possible and what is not is not helping and in a way it is, because my anger is partly force that powers me. Sounding driven is exactly it, obsessed and enjoying doing what one does. Still cannot help of wondering quantity of the negative load and hostile atmosphere there is which truly wishes to drag anybody down. To lift someone up just by saying good for you, well done, someone you do not know and a female is too much. I do what I see is necessary to be done and there are too few people doing that.

I gain strength from doing the things I enjoy most. It is my best friend and never lets me down. Those things probably don’t have the same value for others and here is where the wondering bit starts. (I also wonder why you wonder something so self-evident) To me it is no wonder at all to be interested in ideas that might make a difference. I have this conclusion because I have been told what I do is mostly useless. Only value being money and making it, it is clear to be wondrous why someone is interested in something that has poor future prospects. Well I see it that mankind already has poor future prospects. People making money have made the world go from recession to recession. I don’t see value doing crime, lying and deception. I loath such choices and people who take the easy way. When your only discipline is to make more money surely you are powerful and grande. The more money you have it is only fair and right for you to distribute it for your community. To keep everything for yourself isn’t the way to do business, because business isn’t just business. Middle class existence which is filled with pleasure-seeking, indifference, self-prizing and self-love is nothing but despicable. To speak in strong language is one way to wake up those who like the way of things and do not want to risk anything because they are not the ones at immediate risk and danger. To risk oneself for others while fighting for myself is the best action.

What kind of equality we need and when we talk about equality is it possible in reality or just a desire we are not truly ready for?

To me equality means clean water, sanitation, food, schooling, freedom of violence, possibilities open for everyone, clean nature, animal rights, reduction of suffering and injustice, equal pay and labor rights, affordable safe housing, safe environment, work, healthcare, welfare and children to be able to spend their childhood as children which means abolishing of child labor; to mention those I see most important and achievable. To say again they are achievable and should be put in action right now. There is no reasonable justification to inequality and I must say humankind has made progress but we must not rest until all people have those things I mentioned, until all people understand what it means to be equal and why it is important. So is equality possible in a world where crooks can run free after having made mess of banking and economy of several countries, where corruption is the main cause for countries not being able to evolve to be livable and safe where there are possibilities for all citizens. Where politicians do not face justice for making useless and destructive wars which have been nothing but horrific and futile, where politicians can ignore public opinion of millions of people. Equality is still a dream.

Equality and to achieve it would mean such a complete shift of thought and manners of interacting it takes generations to make visible changes. Time is something we do not have. There is no reason to wait. Destruction is never justifiable, killing and threat of losing life is something no one should go through. Equality is also a personal philosophy one should completely commit to. It happens first on grass root level understanding how one treats fellow-man, woman and child. To know which things are wrong around and be able and willing to do something to those things is part of equality. If people feel powerless, hopeless and next to nothing wanting material riches it can be hard to rise above those desires and make change. When people change their lives via crime and violence it creates more crime and violence. When children live in a hopeless world they become desperate, unwilling and unaware of possibilities they may have. People have to be taught what kind of possibilities there are, other kind of values than big expensive cars and houses. What is truly valuable is people who understand value of community which encourages and lifts up.

Ethical glued on does not work nor seem reliable to trust. Those well-meaning thoughts, efforts and concerns fall flat when the whole industry is rotten to the core. When one does the opposite to someone and the polishes the image with other hand. You know what I mean? Like washing clean something that is spoilt. When practices in use do not stand the light of day one can ask what is going on and why grievances have not been dealt with properly? Such as getting paid for job done, poor working conditions where bullying is more than a rule and work is difficult to find without connections, striking sexism which oddly lives on, holding on to authority of institutions and experts who are at the highest rank not taking the branch forward but keeping it unchanged, not to mention rights of other laborers who work to build the facilities, maintain them and so on. Still artist is at the bottom of all this and very few actually stand up for artists. Of course it is commonly narcissistic field luring those who wish to make money where it is to be made, artists with ideas make value for those above. It is not questioned because artists are often depending on help. When money rules how things are done and ruled in authoritarian manner it is a dead-end. When beauty, philosophy, aesthetics and picture of human being is revealed, dug, explored and wanted to understand it demands sincerity, commitment, will to understand, sensibility and trustworthiness which I consider are basic human qualities too often forgotten and hastily abandoned. It is essential to be able to trust a source, that work is done properly, be able to trust authorities that they are fair, respectful and honest. This is not always the case. Very little so, unfortunately. If you do not respect artists do not work in the arts. It is not a playground of the wealthy and posh, at least should not be. Those who let outer traits, gender and origin effect their decision-making please do a favor, learn to think differently, change the perspective and your attitude. There are too many assholes in this business.

Why is it important that someone and anyone should not be special, original, different, out of ordinary more gifted than has been my primal question always, which pressure and dilemma I still try to understand. There is a strange play of bullying for not being gifted and bullying if one is very gifted. How to know what is true is to find out yourself. In world today we should all be average not to raise any attention or eyebrows as we are watched and labelled. To fit in is what we try to do and it is desperate as we are policed to fit in. What is extraordinary then when it can be pushed overboard just because it cannot be tolerated or it does not fit in? Do we become extraordinary depending on what kind of values and aspirations we have or because one sees in oneself something others do not? If one desires to succeed as easily as possible one gets accustomed to and blends in imitating and enjoying the imitation and benefits it brings. This however is not the pattern of thought for a person who wishes to make a change in her life, do something worthwhile and innovate. Pleasing everybody does not please innovation nor culture to be variable and as I personally see it is not a life worth having. There is a strong sense of fear in people and this was very clear at university and is within art. Pressure to make the best possible authority pleasing result is there and it is making results looking somewhat similar, as if we were not moving as fast as we could.
How to protest the state of things when there is authority of wealth, positions and punishments which in their mildest are silencing, humiliation and shutting out? One obviously has to believe in one’s gut and protest after protest, speak up. How about when there are hundreds of others around but they are clueless, don’t want to protest because they are afraid of authorities or they are perfectly content in their oblivion? There are a lot of people who don’t wish to cause a commotion, any kind of noise that might make them look suspicious and would risk their opportunities. To me we live in a world of fear and the greatest losses are those of losing work, connections and opportunities to make money because we live for money.
To do things for money and career is not good enough especially if one is an artist and especially when one is a teacher.
