To think why society exists, state has citizens and society is for them

If art is seen as mechanical part of society with duty to fill, money to make with, interior to decorate, glory to have by there will be those who will oppose it, artists who will challenge such system of good and bad, winners and losers, rich and poor, laborers and profit makers. An artist as someone who has to make art to fit the system is selling cheap, to fill in requirements given to make art suitable there will be something left out, unseen and forgotten. Why people do art, why there is need for art, what kind of art do we want to make and to what kind of need does it answer, who defines what is art and who is the artist. These questions will be asked over and over again as there is a system that makes it compulsory to find the grande artist, value art as possession, as there is system that makes profit via art often without the artist. Sometimes it seems art is valued but artists are not as people who also need to be paid for their work. In capitalism we do not live to make charity, to make other people rich, give value to institutions, cities and countries.

Holding on to entitlement. What can be called a minor human error?

Definitions by which we move on: we must know on what kind of ground we stand, what there is to know about the world around (we should be interested), we must define ourselves what is it that we can achieve as ourselves finding the best in ourselves, what we are compared to environment and other people and what we can do with knowing where we come from. We are defined by others for the same reasons, goals and looking for meaning; where those others stand in relation to us. Knowledge is the key to any entitlement, any relation and standing, at least this I hope. What do we know then? What kind of resource knowledge we have is and what kind of knowledge is available? Mission gets complicated when we begin to evaluate what is worth knowing, what do we want in the end and where do we move with the knowledge we have, what does it do to us and what do we do with it.

Something one is entitled to, to know, to learn, to speak, to work, to grow, to live, to breath, to feel, to move, to explore, to find, to lose, to sleep, to rest, to imagine, to invent, to play, to be a child, to be what one desires to be. What can we say we are entitled to are those mentioned and things people have to know themselves without putting anyone down but to lift up. When we feel entitled is when we enjoy having something, is it extra or is it because we are humans and therefore can and will? What is too much entitlement? We tend to take many things for granted, things which are granted to us as privileges in a world of crises and wealth distributed unequally but something we truly need like education, continuous schooling and work. We have an obligation to educate ourselves and our children, find a way to make a living and place of living. To say to have a life is to live a fulfilling life with joy and curiosity. How many can say that? We should be entitled to be able to feel joy, feel joy of living as we are privileged to be living this exact time on Earth. Still it seems to be difficult for many to be content, grateful and have feeling of joy for what one has. Is that the basic dilemma of human existence, discontent, unhappiness and emptiness? Not having enough ever or not having what that other person can have, not being able to be happy for someone else and not being able to be content for life as it appears to be.

Problem can be that one cannot let go of the old because it was the entitlement to that person, a possession, to let go and have others have the same entitlement and joy. Problem of sharing something good, especially material good, material comfort, not riches but security.

Art is impotentti

Sex-ed, the sexiest Ed. from Henna on Vimeo.

We expect art has testimonial value, sensitiveness and truthfulness for it to be appreciated as image of us.

What is lie in art is its unwillingness of changing when it thinks it changes all the time, inability to see in what kind of world we live in, inability or reluctance to confront the facts and do something about the issues that clearly aren’t right (not just show how things are wrong but do something to correct the situation), realities of people pictured, stories told, truths of those portrayed and those who make art can make a weird scene where we can be worried how things are wrong but not see how things truly are wrong in the business and what kind of impact art has in the world, good image is not good enough. Lie in art is to make a lookalike of everything is fine when they are not, not to do anything to sexism, discrimination, worker rights, authority of institutions, underpay and overpay and who actually gets paid. Art is evidently a needed industry but who needs it most? It is sad how terribly art is abused and undervalued especially by those who work within art. To say how things are is not a crime, not to say anything is.

Why is body damaging? Or should the question be rather what kind of mind does not tolerate body?

Questions to be answered hopefully of what gets damaged by body, who damages what in the process of living with bodies, what is there to be protected? Something similar could be asked by why we allow the self-evident damage to be done by excessive mechanized sexualization in visual universe we inhabit? Something needs to be sold and it is going cheap. Constant intrusion of purity is an attack done by entertainment industry. When art does the same there is a scandal. What other is it about than hypocrisy, living in a new world with old virtues and vices. Where is empowerment and who has it?

Thought of the obscene body, body parts, impropriety, bodily obscenity which is linked to build and controlled civilization, concepts of shame, honor, purity, denial, evil, temptation and sin. Corpus that is indecent all the time even clothed must be punished also all the time to prove goodness and strength of mind, ability to control oneself and capability to decency. Our sexuality which is inappropriate, difficult to the very core is on display everywhere for consuming purposes and is still denied, humiliated and put to shame. Advertising and entertainment is according to creators of business talk empowering and broadening horizons, opening minds to human sexual exploration. Obscenity is in contradiction to nature and to nature in us. The more we put nature to shame and sweep it under the carpet the more problematic the issue gets. To be damaged by act of intercourse, seeing nudity, being nude, having to deal with sexuality and complexity it brings is at large a mighty part of nature within us and part of all. The difficulty to understanding this practical everyday part of life seems to be very common and around we see a very sexualized world.

As there is thought to be a bond between art and exploring human sexuality, art and the dangerous animal in us, it is strange how forcefully sex is banned in art. Such prohibitions, raising eyebrows in embarrassment tell of artists not having much power within art that public opinion and public image play an important role what kind of art can be displayed and seen in art context. There is a strong stereotype of sexually liberal artist, female and male caricature almost which has been made via art history by telling stories. Liberal, someone who is disregarding social norms, such stereotype which is an image from a dusty book than real life. Strangely I have encountered this stereotype of an artist and it is dusty. Sex and drugs and rock and roll.

I have a recommendation for hotels and restaurants: please ask help when you purchase art in to your enterprises. It will be worth your while.

To find quality is of course priority with suitable price. Fast food culture has had an impact on all of culture from constructing to interior design to creating public places for us all to enjoy. I have not found much enjoyable spaces lately in public places. How much should quality cost and how do we recognize quality is something worth digging into. There are merchants and con men as there are projects and opportunities trying to make the most profit as always. When making something worth while is all about making the best profit consequences will be somewhat and more or less foul. Money that goes down the drain is clearly wasted. When worth while goes in the meaning of fortunes being made the worth while is meant for few players who are in it for the money. When we talk about art and making it accessible to the people for many to enjoy art in every day, tourism is not the first priority. Tourists follow something that has proved to be valuable locally, benefiting ordinary people. Shipping something expensive ready-made as a tourist attraction is the effect glued on without wanting to see what there really is on the spot. When restaurants and hotels wish more tourists to visit and they think art will do to attracting please pay attention to what kind of art you will purchase in your facilities in which those tourists will spend time, eat their meals and sleep. There are paintings and photographs on walls of every hotel room, in every restaurant. When you wish to benefit from art and work of artists, it is good to consider how you do it.

Cheapness and posters rarely do any tricks in attracting anyone, nor do plastic flowers and photographs of misty mountains, but they are cheap as kitsch usually is.

Size of art: The things you can tell by choosing size. Playing with size is to play with our eyes, perception, attention and ways we are used to looking at things.

Importance of art, what is important art, where lies the interest when we look at art depending on what are we measuring when we measure art, what we look for, why art is there to be measured. We measure the price, fame, skill, connections, where the artist is based at and so forth. Why all the measuring and paying attention to surface is so important especially in art, or is it just the problem of this branch only? Obviously not. Seek to impress and making it get desperate when competition is heavy. Is it the social side behind desire and lust for grandiose there to be understood? Is it just pure greed and need for power? Art has to be placed or left out as are artists in or out? Question of size of art and what gets attention is always interesting. As an artist as I write about attention can mean it is I who wants attention. There is always the self-interest, suspicion, egoism which are attached to art, social aspects of doing the whole of art, business, publicity and talking about art. Big possibilities lure spineless crooks who wish to make the best profit there is possible to make.

Someone who seeks to be talked about, is that an artist? As an artist I seek that my work is talked about not me. When my exhibition is photographed do not take photos of me but of my work. I do not seek a personality cult by being an artist but rather have something to say than posing in a picture. This has been very difficult to grasp for many. Though at the moment I find internet art much more interesting to do and explore for many reasons. It lacks the stereotypes, assumptions and conventions of traditions of  fine art. I find that appealing, refreshing and new.

Same size problematics goes with architecture, thinking the bigger equals the better. The better and something good in the world of today is matter of magnitude, impact, conspicuousness, ability to make stature that impresses. To be impressed in an instant, to get an awe, be taken one’s breath away by something that has required skill to achieve is a goal by which art in traditional sense is seen and meaning of making art is to prove skill, professional and trustworthy, valuable in a world where machinery, factories, technical thinking prevail over everything as true signs of intellect, human abilities and are seen as male. Big size as a masculine feature is an all covering giant with its shadow to impress conquering attention and to win is like winning in sports. It is not unusual to own and aggressively protect that tradition in art by diminishing countering opinions. Dominance is the only way to do things in this kind of mental atmosphere. Anything small is pathetic and cute, seen as to be won, big is self-evidently good and acceptable, heavy and solid. What a horrible weakness that is to all of art and artists to seek massiveness in every way. It is to diminish and kill anything else which everything else would mean variety of points of views and ways of making.

Why is it still difficult for women to find work as artists and be given sufficient credit for their work?

There are so many things that need to be done something about what comes to women’s rights as workers, creative makers: to be independent and respected as such, respected for their work and having freedom of expression. Question is why the task of finding equality, equal opportunities, is taking so long and the road is bumpy as hell? Why such reluctant viewpoint on change and equal rights, repulsion against women’s points of view, all kinds of women? Only answer I can think of is that there are people who do not want women to have power, power to make decisions, show perspectives of different. There are people to whom women are frightening, especially women who know what they want and are not afraid to express their ideas and thoughts.
Why women as artists still need, obviously, more proving their talent than men, proving their art is valuable as pieces of art and part of our culture, not as some abnormalities? Women as artists bring value to the whole community, their stories are interesting, universal and unifying therefore worth while looking into and share. Movie industry is a good example of the rule of white men who do not seek anything other than making money. This conclusion I make as I follow what kind of movies get the most advertising and get noticed by media. Media and movie industry work together in this as does TV. The bigger the better has a testosterone impact all over and anything else gets rolled over. Anything marginal is getting past way too hastily, because it may not sell enough. That is a dead-end way to do art, produce living culture and do business. Things produced that we notice in every day stand out at news stands, fast food restaurants, magazines, on the internet with huge force. This in mind problem of inequality and what gets made and is made interesting by PR is acute and rooted to the whole culture of entertainment and art. Luring and exciting do hit strikingly and very much as a gender-issue as how culture is given to us. This is a responsibility issue, because we learn to watch either variety of things which inspire us, or monotonously something factory-produced, easy and ready-chewed entertainment which brings an ecstatic boost. A monoculture of white men telling how entertainment and art are produced, what gets made for us see like there was nothing else will hopefully soon be over. There is work to be done.

Article picks addressing important feminist issues:
http://msmagazine.com/blog/2015/05/13/aclu-goes-after-hollywoods-gender-gap/ ”Without the insight and experience of women, the entertainment media runs the risk of telling stories that not only fail the Bechdel Test but also rob audiences of a deeper understanding of the female experience. … There is a huge audience for storytelling that gives voice to everyone standing in line behind all the straight white men.”
