To adventure is to be capable of adventuring.

How do we learn to think in a way that in everything we do we spontaneously see freedom of doing and freedom of thinking instead of performing, conducting or accomplishing being the priority? Accomplishment is important and to be recognized for not only work but existence, noticed as a person and being given something in return of having made by the person one is, feeling of having achieved and happiness of what one is joint together in harmony (impossible for an ambitious artist). Maybe achievement is too big a word in this what I am trying to get at..achievement of being able to have an adventure, adventurous mind is somewhat a privilege. Adventure has a likeness of lighthearted escapism and strong bond to idea of belonging to a privileged class, having an opportunity to do what one’s mind desires without a care and much effort. Without worry and heavy luggage, though it is the well-off who travel with luggage. To adventure is to be able to forget one’s possessions and position, that in mind privileged adventurer sounds like a snob who isn’t free enough to do what an adventure requires.

What does something that does not have an odor smell like? There is a need to smell, for smell, but what if, there is no smell. There are things that do not send a message of smelling like anything like that ad below I mentioned. It is to build an identity, a character and nature to rely on to live in contemporary work environment that admirers winners, celebrities and ultimate success which is narrowly defined capitalist dream. It for me does not have a smell. It is superficial about how things look instead of what they really are. A costume is to hide oneself, to camouflage and fit in but as perfected as much as possible.

Ideology of it is more important how things look than what they are.

That is marketing, selling, a monoculture wanting all to perform the same in continuum to have the same fascist impact of ’excellence’ everywhere which is as well-defined and accurate as banking, programming, technology, any business-oriented culture there is. Business culture has penetrated art, business of selling art, making money with art and penetrated making of art expecting artists to present themselves as accurately as merchants. That is a big problem since art is not an exact one truth field nor only a money-making machinery where dictating style and contents would do something interesting and long-lasting.

If people in business and art schools do not understand the relation between surface and insides, that something is missing, when importance is on the size and grandiose, gender and origin, who you know and who knows you. If comparing what is said to how things are told does not ring any bells, is not strikingly , ways we are being led is more like brainwash because alternatives are not allowed.

Sharing is caring. Is gossiping about social skills or lack of them?

Ethically produced knowledge and learning? Sure thing, don’t know about the ethics though, a production, yes. Stand point to gossip is that it is all around, unavoidable as it seems. Why people do it? It obviously plays the essential part of entertaining as everyday soap without TV. Why do you think even though we know it is morally wrong and there is no justification to gossip people find gossip appealing? It brings together similar minded jackasses and separates those who can be discussed about. Gossip sure has a place in society, but why through doing harm we look for something interesting, excitement and shock value. Good and nice are not enough, boring maybe? We need the shock, danger, exposure, element of forbidden in digging other people’s lives and to seek humiliation on others, shame of those who are in the spotlight? Obviously, why else bad talk would flourish to the extent it does. Gossiping is a major seller of goods and magazines making celebrities. It is an emotional boost of either wanting what that other fabulous person has or loathing and hating someone to exclude them, make them feel bad about themselves. I see it merely as public expression of emotions and desires, which has very little to do with reason. Gossip is psychological warfare, violence and shows the ugly side of people, of those who gossip. getting things out of proportion, out of context, false and to make the talker look better than the one who is talked about. It is much a moral issue in which those who make gossip think have morals on their side, have higher morals than and know what is morally right. Gossiping people do not see anything wrong in their behavior until they are caught. It is a mental assault to team against someone, cruel, bullying, hurtful and ruthless. It does not stop until it is stopped.

If I look at the phenomenon of word getting around, it is irreversible and damaging. Gossip is targeting with a purpose, practical with a specific meaning. In that way it is very social, needs relations and skills to spread. If you really don’t know what you are talking about, why don’t you keep your fucking mouth shut. If your only purpose is to harm those you for some reason do not like, you have got some serious issues that need tending.

The Gossip and making of it: The contradiction in me is the contradiction shown to me, because it is the flaw that should not be but is.

I tell you my personal point of view so there is no need to speculate how I see myself: The very personal issue of all to all is how to be accepted and stay accepted. How does it happen, what do I have to do and be like to be accepted. As an idea it is the basic human problem, relevant, important and at the same time very unnecessary as there is the constant message in the air that we are to be accepted as we are, loved as such, especially children who are what they are without much possibility and need to be something else. Children do not fake themselves, act phony unless there is a punishment, judgment, shadow, fear etc. telling to do otherwise than what they do. They learn to fake it when it becomes clear they are not what they are supposed to be, they are not doing what they are expected to do. This has been the core issue in my life. There has always been talk around me about me, which talk is not meant for me to know. I have been aware and observing as artists and children do… So I am being analysed by others to others but not analysed to me or asked how I see things. I am left out for whatever reason. Something wrong about me has been defined and has been made a story. Good things do not make such a good story, right? It is not good to talk what is good? That there is idea that there is nothing wrong with the environment or people, but the error and flaw is in me because I am different. Issue of gossip and talk has been there all my life without me, still, somehow never stopping. I am there but I am not there. I am scary and I have to be scared. This is sad history and has made me feel inadequate and really puzzled about how am I supposed be, which has made me work even harder. I somehow do not exist and exist at the same time. So you understand that I really don’t understand how to be in the world of people. If you get what I mean.

It is no wonder I was lost and still am. State of lost and loss has become my tools and topic, good thing and bad, good and evil. I juggle and experiment. I provoke with my mere existence as is evident, now I enjoy the provocation and know how to create from and with it, to identify with obscure and weird and what is odd exactly. It does not take much to seem crazy and out of balance, become scared and build a bubble. I take the provocation as far as I can to see what happens. People make things happen. Very small tiny things move them, move their lips, make them talk. It is easy to say I am cynical. I see myself as having an organic part in a human game and as a researcher, what else could I do? If I give you information why do you share it, what are your motives for that? And what have been the motives to gossip behind my back all a long? How am I the cynical one here one can ask. I just study you. I know myself. It is healthy to learn to know thyself. It is called growing. To seek flaws in me is the same old same old as is the not giving me any credit for my exceptional talent, which is obvious and oh so demanding. Does it have something to do with my gender??

There is and has been a great chance for me to get badly hurt, but I am already all the time in a state of hurt, which is like built-in me, so it does not make much effort to take the hurt further and further little by little and see how much hurt people are willing to make. I have learned to place hurt and everyday reality to their places, into perspective of research and art. What hurts me, probably would kill you. Most it hurts to see how little people change and what kind of things make them talk. It is what makes the world go round. That is the sad part. As I test my limits it means I make progress. Pain and work are parts of that personal progress. So if I as an artist and human being begin to be accepted as such, it will be the most strange place I could be. One becomes used to of not being accepted. Contempt, suspicion, rejection, humiliation and hate are parts of that world. To understand me it is good to understand where I come from. It is a very different place and view-point. To think my world is unharmed, pink and naive is unbelievably naive.

Please begin to explore your minds, if you haven’t started yet. Let the healing begin. There is a saying of better late than never. In the case of making gossip better it is never. Oh what a contradiction. To see yourself as you are can be a good thing. To like yourself..one has to live a kind of life one wants, be the kind of person one likes.

How do you clean without a vacuum cleaner? Who cleans without a vacuum cleaner? No one. Really? Can you smell the new smell?

I have a cleaning dilemma which is ideological, not that much that I didn’t know what to do. Is it also a gender issue, environmental? Do I dare to ask? Can you imagine living without a vacuum cleaner? It is a similar kind of question as could you live without a car or two. It very often is for many unimaginable. Why is it so unimaginable? Life would get difficult and uneasy if we didn’t keep it together with helping equipment. Our everyday problems are solved and we don’t have to think much about it just. Sigh of relief. One could almost feel like a freak without the basic tools, left without lacking something important which is meant to be with us organically like a friend. Almost, hey. Of course this is a question of how much space one has to do clean and what kind of dirt we are talking about. When it comes to professional cleaning ladies, who clean for living, it is good for their health to have ergonomic light tools, essentially important. Cleaning ladies’ work is hazardous, unappreciated, loathed even. Something you do not easily see, stay interested in unless the job is not done. To pay attention to those people who take care of our spaces is therefore important. They are many and invisible as long as they stay quiet and do their jobs. Cleaning personnel get paid poorly, pay which does not enough include to the fact it is a dangerous job to maintain surfaces. Health risks are there how the work is done and what kind of poisonous cleaning detergents are used, not to mention people looking down on you as you haven’t moved up in the world. Detergents can smell good for a minute. Spraying detergents is the same as breathing them so you can imagine what the shit can do in the long run. As garbage men, cleaning ladies and janitors are doing socially extremely important work, think about it what they could do: stop the whole of society. Can you smell the new smell?
Interesting point here is how we assume, forget, do not think, see the obvious or ignore completely because we don’t have to pay attention. All we have to do is to know the necessity of technology and total superiority of things we own, their unquestionable value to us, that we know they are right for the job they are designed to and we can have them. Tasks and needs which cannot be done otherwise, who would want to anymore. We would soon be asthmatic and living in filth like our ancestors going nowhere. It is the power of advertising, powerful collective suction and consuming mindset to owning, to expertise, re-organizing, planning and performing proper civilized human beings who maintain themselves. Especially herself who has to know how to maintain this perfect image, how to be in it. It is so precise of an image holding on to us tightly. Letting go is overwhelmingly problematic. We have our reasoning which is part of the problem. Effectiveness is all. This reasoning is solving only the surface of things without wanting look inside.
If we lost machines like washing machines and vacuum cleaners it would mean cleaning work renaissance with laundry and household staff. Would it be class society all over again? Nevertheless there would be work if there were people who needed the service and paid for it. It is easy to see how important hygiene is for our everyday lives and how easily we ignore this fact.
What do you know about vacuum cleaners is another question and I bet nothing much. Where do they come from and where do they go? They, our tools, do the job just as well and much better than the old ones. New ones keep on appearing, designed, manufactured and they look amazing matching our interior of chrome and glass which need to be spotless. We are instructed how to plug-in, put on and how to operate. If you are not able to there is something wrong with you no doubt. To get rid of the things when they have lived their lives with us can be a bit tricky if you are willing to put effort and time in to that not so tiny ecological dilemma. We don’t have to know machines we use well, we don’t have to know where the materials come from, how the cost of machines get made and who profit the most. Vacuum cleaners are made super easy to use, everybody can use them, everybody can have them and will have a vacuum cleaner. What other this machine does than suck dirt and dust and what kind of life does a vacuum cleaner as an object represent is the easy comfortable living without dirt without effort. It provides and represents health. Even our apartments have closets for the thing with a long tube and heavy body. It is an essential tool cleaning your car, sofa, carpets quickly without too many extra movements and tricks.
Why I talk about vacuum cleaner is that I don’t own one and I happened to ask the cleaning lady who works our building could I borrow the one she uses. (I got a face) Nobody asks such questions because everybody has their own. So I think it is a very interesting cultural question of how we consume, how we maintain our standard of living and take care of our property, homes and which items belong to a modern household. I am in many ways a minority, by far.
Can you imagine people who live without vacuum cleaners, what they are like? At what point imagining life without those essential machines in our lives has become almost impossible?
To get stuck with ideas of how modern life is arranged and should be lived is where the closed society is born. Not that societies were not closed before, but there is a large problem waiting to be solved about how we evolve or do not and in some ways it is not new and some way it is terrible isolation which is almost impossible to change. What kind of society is closed and how do we open it or better yet encourage people to open up society as a culture and as a structure?
Yes it is a bit perverse question, psychological, and you can begin to imagine all kinds of alternatives, horrors, To think what do I mean with cleaning can too be very different than idea of cleaning to a super hygienist. Why do I even ask is because we assume too much. We have vacuum cleaners and they work perfectly fine, mostly. A machine almost all households have like a self-evident equipment so much so that to think cleaning without this noisy part of home would be unthinkably. To me it strongly seems people as modern population have come to a point where we do not see the opportunities there are. We like to be stuck and like our comfort.

We need to have a destination and repetition, a pattern to repeat, we need to know how to get there where we are going, what is there, that there is something for us. That we are safe. Kuinka olla kriittinen?

Kriittisyyteen ei kannusteta, koska se on hiukan uhkaavaa ja epämiellyttävää. Puheissa ja olemuksessa on oltava kiihkoton, tasaisen rauhallinen, äläkä vaan radikalisoidu tai olet ulkona ja hylkiö, potentiaalinen kouluampuja ja pommimiesnainen. Radikalisoitumista on monenlaista, toivottavasti se on edes joillekin selvää. Itse näen että ei ole muuta vaihtoehtoa kuin radikalisoitua eli vastustaa äänekkäästi monin tavoin paikallaan pysyvää mitäänsanomattomuutta joka pelkää muutosta. Pureva kritiikki koetaan loukkaavaksi, hyökkääväksi ja siksi se on tarpeetonta koska häiriö on häiriö (joidenkin mielestä). Tahallisesti pyrkiä pahoittamaan jonkun herkkä mieli ja aivan turhaan ja aivan kuin se olisi kritiikkiä. Kriittisyyttä ja reaktioita madännäisyyteen on monenlaista, joten taito kannattaa opetella jo pienestä pitäen. Kriittinen ajattelu, toisinajattelu ja tekeminen ovat pohja toimivalle kansalaisyhteiskunnalle. Se on venttiili ja perustarve ettei tarvitse tukeutua väkivaltaan tilanteissa kun ei tule kuulluksi, korjatakseen epäkohtia, korjatakseen jotakin mikä on rikki on pystyttävä keskusteluun, mielipiteisiin. Jos yhteiskunta ei halua kriittisiä, itsenäisiä ajattelijoita vaan massan joka tykkää mukavasta yhtenäisyydestä jossa kaikkien on oltava samaa mieltä tai oltava hiljaa koska emme uskalla olemme umpikujassa, ja siltähän tilanne nyt näyttää. Sanan- ja ilmaisunvapaus on tasa-arvoisen ja ihmisiä kunnioittavan yhteiskunnan perusta.

Taide jota tällä hetkellä varmaankin edelleen pidetään vapaana ilmaisunareenana ei sitä ole. Taide edelleen leijuu tavoittamattomana möhkäleenä jossa asiantuntijaa leikkimällä voi olla vallankahvassa muka sivistynyt (kyllä stereotypiat pitävät paikkansa). Tuo tahtoo pyöriä samanlaisena samojen kaavojen mukaan muuttumatta tarjoten mukavia posteja mukaville kavereille eikä osaa ottaa kritiikkiä vastaan, koska eihän hyvässä ole mitään kritisoitavaa. Tuota puhkaisematonta kenttää ei voi kritisoida olematta taidevastainen vaikka aihetta on runsaasti. Tapahtuu näivettyminen ja syntyy muuttumattomuuden tila joka on täysin taiteen sääntöjen vastainen, avoimen yhteiskunnan vastainen. Taiteessa vallassa ovat pääasiassa muut kuin taiteilijat, tilanne kertoo jotakin. Systeemi on melko käsittämätön kavarisuhteille ja kädenpuristuksille perustuva leikki. Syyt miksi muuttumattomuuden tilan halutaan niin kovin säilyvän ovat narsistinen vallantavoittelu, jalustalla seisomisen ihanuus, usko omaan kaikkivoipaisuuteen, omaan erinomaisuuteen joka ei enää kaipaa päivittämistä, vankkumaton usko auktoriteetiaseman saavuttaneiden erehtymättömyyteen, ja ai niin rakkaus taiteeseen, oma hivelevä herkkyys jota kaunis taide koskettelee niin viekoittelevasti, oh.

Purevien kriitikoiden hiljentäminen ja halventaminen ovat tyypillisiä tapoja pitää saavutettu asema, pitää tilanne muuttumattomana. Kateudestahan ne kitisee, vai mitä. Kun ajattelu on noin matalaotsaista ei halua edes ottaa osaa moisen systeemin ylläpitämiseen ja rakentamiseen vaan sen murtamiseen ja totaaliseen muuttamiseen. Äärimmäisen hyvä esimerkki on Guggenheim-projekti jonka toteutumista voi arvailla; kuinkakohan ne pärjää sen kanssa, ovatko ne pärjänneet ja mitä tästä voi ajatella muuta kuin Guggis on kaivanut kivan haudaan itselleen. Minäkin rakastan taidetta. Kovan rahan kusetusta ja valehtelua en. Mielenkiintoista on kuinka taiteella tahdotaan tahkota rahaa, millaista taidetta tuetaan. Taide tuo näkyvyyttä kaupungille, se on selvä. Mielenkiintoista on kuinka omia taiteen sisäisiä valta-asemia halutaan taiteen kustannuksella vahvistaa ja poliittista imagoa pönkittää pelaamalla omaan pussiin rakastamalla taidetta. Taide tuo rakastava instituutio. Näin paljon rakkautta kaikille. Jännä tuoda esiin rakkauden tunne ja herkkyyskin vielä, voih mä varmaan pyörryn kohta. Tuo rakkaus taiteeseen on niin valtavaa että on konsulteilta kysyttävä voiko Helsinkiin rakentaa museon. Ollaan nyt ihan varmoja, kun ei niistä turisteista tiedä mitä ne haluavat. Oma tuotto on turvattava, eihän sitä nyt tappiolla sentään toimita. Voi mikä luottamus minulla on tälläisiin tunteellisiin älynjättiläisiin, mutta onhan se niin, ilman pääsymaksuja ei meillä olisi varaa kustantaa tuota mahtavaa taidetta jota meille mahdollisesti maksua vastaan virtaisi ulkomailta jotta valaistuisimme ja oppisimme taas jotakin uutta, kuten ilmoille lausuttiin: oppisimme suuren maailma tavoille. Onneksi meillä on varaa ja tarve suuren maailman tavoille. Hoitolaitokset ja palvelutalot loistavat kammottavuudellaan, missä on taide? Taidetta niissä ei paljon ole vaikka kaupungit mielellään taidetta varastoihinsa keräävät. Edelleen voi kysyä mikä on taiteen tarkoitus? Kaupungeille se on lähes pelkästään sijoituskohde. Miksi joku vastustaa taidetta niin paljon että ei tajua mikä mahdollisuus Guggenheim on Helsingille ja Suomelle? Kyllähän se varmaan olisikin ollut jos salailu ja valehtelukulttuuri ei niin kovin paistaisi läpi, jos projektissa olisi jotakin aitoa ja haluttavaa.

Mutta takaisin kritiikkiin ja sen tarpeellisuuteen. Helsingin Sanomissa kerrottiin viime viikolla kuinka kulttuurirahat virtaavat kaupungin keskustan kulttuurilaitoksille vaan eivät suuremmassa mittakaavassa lähiöihin joissa taiteelle todellakin olisi tarve. Asiaan on onneksi tulossa muutos kun Helsingin kaupunki on ilmeisesti tullut järkiinsä ja tajunnut millainen mahdollisuus taide lähiöissä on ja jakaa puoli miljoonaa lähiöiden projekteihin yms. Jotain hyvää tapahtuu sielläkin päässä. Olinkin jo hetken huolissani, kyllä varmaan se konsulteille maksettu korvaus hyvästä työstä jollakin tapaa maksaa itsensä takaisin.. lol. Olinkin jo menettämässä luottamukseni kulttuurirahoituksen jakelijoihin.

Jos otamme kannan että auktoriteettiasema tuo 100% uskottavuuden ja luotettavuuden, kenties vielä enemmän, olemme todella hukassa. 100% luottamuksen tulisikin olla mutta kun asioita hoidetaan näin huonosti, on aihetta kysyä millä rahkeilla ihmiset pääsevät päättäviin asemiin? Jos kuvataide on alue joka on kritiikin yläpuolella, joka on hyväksikäytettävissä ja käyttökamaa jonka arvo on yhtä kuin hyötyarvo, mitä se on?  Kuten vaikuttaa, kuten on annettu ymmärtää, että taide on arkea ja tavallisuutta ylempänä, koska asiantuntijuus ylentää taiteen, asiantuntija joka on havaittu asiantuntijaksi muiden asiantuntijoiden avulla: näivettyminen on jo tapahtunut. Missä on itsekritiikki ja mitä taide tässä imagokilvassa on? Asiantuntijan ehdoton auktoriteetti ei ole hyvä asetelma edes tuolle asiantuntijalle saati taiteelle. Mitä tietoon, sen jakamineen, ymmärrettävyyteen, objektiivisuuteen ja totuudellisuuteen tulee, miten käy yhteiskunnallisen kehityksen kun taideasioista päättävä pieni ja salainen veljeskunta on näin korruptoitunut ja mätä? Entä taide joka myötäilee turistivirtoja, mitä se on? Onko se helposti sulavaa ja isoa? Luommeko näin kansalaisia jotka ovat pelottomia ja valmiita keskustelemaan avoimesti vai pelon yhteiskunnan jossa asiantuntijaa ei voi kyseenalaistaa, koska ei vaan voi? Taiteen sivistävä vaikutus varmaan jossakin piilee? Onko sivistys taiteeseen liittyvä asia niinkuin itsestäänselvästi ajatellaan ja mikä on taiteen yhteiskunnallinen merkitys tässä kuvassa? Hämmentävä ajatus on kuinka jotakin pidetään sivistyneenä koska niin on totuttu ajattelemaan, olettamuksien ja kummallisten itsestäänselvyyksien seinäke sanoisin (mitä takana lienee), paikkansapitämättömien hokemien linnake jota olisi jo aika päivittää rankasti. On enää kovin vaikea uskoa mitä taiteen sisällä työskentelevät sanovat on totta ja hyväksi kenellekään. Tuo pyörivä omahyväinen sisätila on itsekeskeisyydessään idioottimainen, mieletön ja turhake.

Avainasemassa kriittisten kansalaisten koulutuksessa ovat opettajat ja laitokset, jotka saavat valtion tukea, joilla on velvollisuus tuottaa kulttuuria, tietoa ja opetusta joka kannustaa ja tukee kriittiseen ajatteluun ja ilmaisuun.
