Value of art according to G

140 000 000
20 000 000
5 000 000
2 000 000

Round figures, something we see often in news fly by. Do we get numbed by the overdosing of numeric info, graphs of how much? What things cost make what they are worth or is it the other way round? How things are seen and handled, priced, talked about, saved or discarded. Wars are expensive, but education is precious, healthcare is too expensive. Museums are meant to shine like diamonds of the cities, priced temples of civilization, education, art, creativity of people. What else? What else do museums of art represent? Commercialism, consumerism, luxury, grandiose and status, power and what is valued? Can they critique themselves? Are they able to keep up with the change (do personnel equal the museum, bad management equal bad museum concept, bad working environment?), mold themselves for the needs of art (needs of people), not needs of museums or is it the same thing? Are art museums art embodied and creators of museum complexes, brands, franchise doing service for art? There is an awful lot of strange interaction, planning and shady promises hanging in the air which all look somewhat crooked for many reasons. Millions are peanuts for some, fairly abstract and large for many, but it is a daily routine to go through what things cost. What art costs is the shadiest of all. Small things make big things, but for some reason spectacle is the only thing that is the honey to attract tourists, art tourists. This is what is assumed. How do you measure when there is no limit but unlimited options to own and exploit, hidden and without showing true intentions, what is what, to make more money to make more value for brands for owners for rulers for player for money men with the help of tourists. Is it a question of heroism, progress of art? I doubt it.

It has been all along Western civilization has been exploring foreign cultures this civilization has refused to understand and know those who it likes to explore and exploit bringing progress and development thinking it is something better and above. It is us and them, those others whom we don’t even want to understand. They are so different. To say of not understanding culture of interacting in our country, our society, our system functioning to benefit art life and variety of it, how we maintain system of ours, how we think things should be done. To say of being naive and not understanding how we do things in Finland is more than odd for people whose nation is planning a trip to Mars. You do not understand foreign countries nor people is at the core of arrogance and stupidity of you nation. Monetary value calculated, planned winnings, honor and imperialist attitude of yours are the flaws of yours you do not want to change, because you do not see them flaws but strengths, your eternal way of life which must not be disturbed. Short-sighted ideas and plain force is nothing but surface, expensive and futile leading to chain reaction of failure with no end. It is good to learn from mistakes made. You fail to do even that. And you dare to say those who object your fucked up project are against art. Fuck you. Your anti-progress, anti-democratic system and thinking sickens me.

Why is it still difficult for women to find work as artists and be given sufficient credit for their work?

There are so many things that need to be done something about what comes to women’s rights as workers, creative makers: to be independent and respected as such, respected for their work and having freedom of expression. Question is why the task of finding equality, equal opportunities, is taking so long and the road is bumpy as hell? Why such reluctant viewpoint on change and equal rights, repulsion against women’s points of view, all kinds of women? Only answer I can think of is that there are people who do not want women to have power, power to make decisions, show perspectives of different. There are people to whom women are frightening, especially women who know what they want and are not afraid to express their ideas and thoughts.
Why women as artists still need, obviously, more proving their talent than men, proving their art is valuable as pieces of art and part of our culture, not as some abnormalities? Women as artists bring value to the whole community, their stories are interesting, universal and unifying therefore worth while looking into and share. Movie industry is a good example of the rule of white men who do not seek anything other than making money. This conclusion I make as I follow what kind of movies get the most advertising and get noticed by media. Media and movie industry work together in this as does TV. The bigger the better has a testosterone impact all over and anything else gets rolled over. Anything marginal is getting past way too hastily, because it may not sell enough. That is a dead-end way to do art, produce living culture and do business. Things produced that we notice in every day stand out at news stands, fast food restaurants, magazines, on the internet with huge force. This in mind problem of inequality and what gets made and is made interesting by PR is acute and rooted to the whole culture of entertainment and art. Luring and exciting do hit strikingly and very much as a gender-issue as how culture is given to us. This is a responsibility issue, because we learn to watch either variety of things which inspire us, or monotonously something factory-produced, easy and ready-chewed entertainment which brings an ecstatic boost. A monoculture of white men telling how entertainment and art are produced, what gets made for us see like there was nothing else will hopefully soon be over. There is work to be done.

Article picks addressing important feminist issues:
http://msmagazine.com/blog/2015/05/13/aclu-goes-after-hollywoods-gender-gap/ ”Without the insight and experience of women, the entertainment media runs the risk of telling stories that not only fail the Bechdel Test but also rob audiences of a deeper understanding of the female experience. … There is a huge audience for storytelling that gives voice to everyone standing in line behind all the straight white men.”

Art reflects middle-class paranoia

Do you know what that is? Do you see the picture in your mind? The interesting phenomenon where people from different backgrounds do not meet, have bias against each other and don’t want to get to acquainted because it would mean to get to know something unfamiliar and maybe scary, maybe dirty, maybe go beneath your class, maybe getting into situations that cause unpleasant and awkward intolerable moments: shame. To seek understanding and unity, if that was the case in Modern society, that people actually wanted to know something they are biased at would mean forgetting status and fears you may have. Middle-class freaking out and panicking is too familiar a reaction. It is especially striking within the Arts (Fine) which tend to attract people who enjoy their bubble, excellence and the glorification art brings. This is much a reason why art is conservative, stays that way, does not change nor make progress other than very slowly even though art likes to think progress is where art is. Idea of being in a perfect place that does not need to change is serving the idea of grande middle-class, ’creative’ class for which making things expensively is a sign of something good and worthwhile. It is no surprise women are still underrepresented in art posts as male domination and old-fashioned gender roles hold on. Sexism is fine, but pornography is appalling, yes children are at risk.. It is no wonder Guerilla Girls had to hide their identity. To criticize something as this massive relic is blasphemy. As much as art desires to talk about human rights and making progress it itself is obviously above critique. Those who give critic are against art. Rhetoric of be on our side or be against and die is familiar in politics and religion, but art has been a good servant for both of those as we well know. When art institutions who protect benefits, status and image of theirs with the idea of they have the right because they are on the right side, what do they protect exactly is very legitimate question, as is how long such bubbles serve society as a whole?
