To become part of gender and sex-oriented society

Sign is there between the legs, a message to people how child should be brought up. What would happen if it didn’t mean that much, that sex wouldn’t dictate how we are perceived and how we should be? Saying earlier that to be a girl is a full on crisis is exactly it, how to grow and adjust to the environment when to adjust is the most wrong thing there could be and do. Adjust and accept because one must. Firstly is the issue of where you live and what kind of atmosphere you are born to, what does your environment tell you, makes of you, lets you be, how you will end up knowing who you are and what will you be, what you should be and who to believe, what to be scared of and what life is worth, your life. To having accepted how to live when does the fun end if we are having fun in the first place.

To be an individual can be tricky. What does it even mean anymore. Young men and women on the video below which is an intro to the movie Spring Breakers 2012 by Harmoni Korine is truthful to reality of college students in the US. Both sexes are exercising roles that are heterosexual and oppressive, roles that are to be followed by students as fun but strict and fitting the idea of letting go and being young in a certain way. Equaling reckless behavior to fun where women are exposing themselves as willing pornographic wild sexual partners on beach with alcohol and drugs. Camera angles tell the story of where to look. Women line up in front of men to play blow jobs with open mouths in which men pour drinks from cans, cans posing penises. All happens on the beach, bright color swimsuits and ads, ecstatic faces and young people who want to go out of control and to be seen as such. Men are more of spectators and users of goods which women gladly offer since it is fun and there are many women instead of one. Grouping is essential of this fun, group dynamic, collective awareness of what is happening and what to do. Who will be wildest and sexiest. Do men expose themselves, do they get drinks on them like it was sperm? This scene is a collective dance of spring, ancient as it is unacceptable and blown out of proportion. Pornographic imagery is very clear as is influence of music videos. All bodies are trained to perform this act. What happens really is shaming and objectifying of women. Women willingly play cattle to be slaughtered and enjoyed, enjoyed and slaughtered. It is suicidal, destructive and dangerous, but that is obviously what they seek, what turns them on. It is one way of seeing student life and a break from studying.

Your guns, your freedom? Your fears are your jail. Arms are power, without power what are we?

https://www.oxfam.org/en/campaigns/why-we-need-global-arms-trade-treaty ”Every day, millions of people suffer from the direct and indirect consequences of the irresponsible arms trade: thousands are killed, others are injured, many are raped, and/or forced to flee from their homes, while many others have to live under constant threat of weapons.”

How is it that there are striking similarities between men’s rights groups and associations that fight for American right to own and manufacture firearms? Arguments those both entities use are somewhat similar. There is nothing there for these groups to consider that should be different in what they do and how they think. Threats come from the outside and threaten a way of life, sovereignty and freedom to defend oneself with firearms. To bear a gun is therefore a human right. It is a scary world where one is forced to change even though the enemy does not look peaceful and to be without bullets is like being naked. There are enemies everywhere for people who are dreadfully frightened and scared of losing and surrendering. This small defenceless individual does not wish anything to change, least himself. One can ask why is that? Lobbying for weapon industry, the money flow and jobs it creates? God made him perfect so why change and money weapon industry makes is fabulous. People have all kinds of rights but to bear a gun is not on my list. Arguments used have correlation to being seriously offended by what that other person just said all the time, because minds are made up and somethings just are solid as a rock.
Similarities are there when gun owners feel threatened by someone telling it is not right to threaten security and future of mankind, meaning security of others. Those others by whom the chosen ones with weapons are threatened by. It is not right or even good for you to eat meat every day, it is not hugely correct not to regulate arms trade (results are there open wide), yes it is good to feel secure, but if guns are the only thing that make you feel secure there is seriously something wrong. Alarm bells should be ringing at your end in a different way. Those who defend their right to bear arms as much as they wish do not see themselves a s threat. Why is that? Is it because God is on their side? So far there have been extremely few attacks against the US on their soil. Nobody has been threatening their independence nor their manufacturing or owning of arms. Only threat there against the US is themselves. It is an upside down world where self-reflection could actually do a lot of good.
It is also curious how American lobbyists for freedom to bear arms affect the whole world. There are quite many threats and continues to be as arms do not lessen the threats. Logic is not on your side. Arms do not make you secure, they create an atmosphere of threat and fear, atmosphere of death and distrust. It is interesting how the United States is frightened over Iran having a nuclear bomb. Yes it is scary and rearmament is not stopping because threats are not going anywhere as long as weapon trade cannot be regulated. It is made hugely difficult when UN is the mighty authority and nations with serious military power do not vote for regulation. Some things never change one might think and that is especially nations with macho attitude and a way of life to protect. It is ironic how a way of life is affecting the whole world and the wall is right ahead into which a way of life is driving rather fast.

Manipulative force of movies: What are movies wanted to make us think?

Are movies like malls where we can wander and pick things of our choosing up in a chart, pay and leave happily for having found what we came for? What are our reactions to movies, especially to those which get a lot of advertising and space in media. Do we expect something of movies we choose to watch? Enjoyment, escape, dreams, stories, anything else? A surprise or something specific which we are paying for not to be disappointed but leave the theater content and entertained. Movies play an important role not only as something to be shown in theaters and on TV to pass the time but something very complex, maybe more than meets the eye. The help to create an empire of merchandise, news, extra on top of the cake and it is fun to make movies, I’m sure. So I am not spoiling the fun, I am just wondering visuals among which we live, power of business and how well organized can a machinery to make profit be. Are visuals used making our perspectives more narrow? Our possibilities in making pictures, thoughts of what can be done, why something is done and what is good?

As it is always in action movies there is good vs. bad, probably the most used juxtaposition as is the all mighty solitary hero and heroine against a mass of ordinary folks who cannot keep up the speed. Heroes and heroines can make a good story with turns that interest a crowd enough to pay to see it, if that is what is enough. What interests to such extent that up to repetition story of all mighty hero has to be told similarly repetitiously with similar kind of twist as American fathers bond with their sons by throwing ball? That a movie makes a blockbuster as planned and how a concept of blockbuster movie is so luring that it over and over again finds viewers making hundreds of millions of dollars? One can question the buzz around it but one can hardly stop it. Just like that, impossible. We are in a whirlwind of media and its choosing of visuals. Is it too obvious and more importantly are we as viewers and consumers that obvious? So it seems. To see something that could actually happen but is bigger than we are, still somehow within reach, attractive as a fantasy and a dream, maybe not as every day scene in real life but saving first America and then the World. Something already may be lost.

What do viewers witness or are viewers being used?

Jurassic Park never did it for me in any way, but here are couple of interesting articles concerning women in science, role models and movies, how movies impact the viewer:
http://bitchmagazine.org/post/in-praise-of-jurassic-parks-dr-ellie-sattler ” When the park’s power fails to come back on as expected, she doesn’t sit in the emergency bunker waiting for rescue. She makes a plan and grabs a walkie-talkie, heading out to find the power switch.”

Interesting case of female action heroes.

And that there are many, most of them though are styled to follow idealized female heroine of cartoons with large breasts, revealing outfits, high heels, long hair, standard western beauty characteristics for a perfect active woman under forty. Something which perhaps the fitness culture of today and competitions in bodily beauty have had advantage of. Muscles still equal to strength, health, certain kind of attitude towards life and how people should look like, obsession over bodily perfection and gaining such perfection with hard work out tell something and stand for a way of life.

As I recall character of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and her transformation into muscular fighter, maker of her own destiny, world’s destiny and dissident who was right all a long, was the first one to make the fashion of muscles acceptable for women. This was in the beginning of the 90′. Celebrities began to work out to get the same biceps and bodily tone as Sarah Connor. Movie Terminator 2 was a huge hit and it made an impression on me as well. Not with sense of fashion but as I have mentioned earlier because of the woman character who is determined and destined to do her all to save the world.

Influence of movies is not to be undervalued. The movie stands in my record one of those worth digging into. A cyborg who was sent by John Connor from the future to save John Connor in the present becomes a father figure to fatherless child. As Sarah Connor thinks to herself how a cyborg is in an insane world a sanest choice for a child.
She does not see herself a hero. What does she feel of herself can be irrelevant because she does not look in the mirror nor weigh her inner emotions. Bleeding wounds do not stop her from accomplishing her mission and she is ready to die for it. Only thing that is sane and doable is the mission, to stop the inevitable destruction. Same kind of features apply to Ellen Ripley in Alien series. She takes lead as others fail to do so. She is a decision maker and she knows what to do. She is an expert without need to please nor be given a prize for her excellence. To survive she has got what it takes. She is omnipotent and her gender does not make her weak. Gender does not play the major role as it is not emphasized by camera angles, clothes or flirtation. She just is what she does, a person who is good at what she does, knowing good and right and what to fight against even if it means doing it on her own.

To be a woman of action does it still mean denying femininity?

As it happens women who pursue work that requires/means physical stress measured as getting dirty, sweaty, working with your hands wearing overalls, mask and gloves, lifting things, moving and making something that needs one to work with whole of body adding problem solving to work are thought to lose something of their femininity. Rationality and innovation with capable hands is for some reason not something women have. Idea of what women are and can be still lives in the 20th century dragging behind infuriating. Women who are doing something that is not traditionally their area to work at, to be expert at without question is seen obscure like an absurdity in every day. Strangely work for women which is to be for some reason clean, neat, ’easy’ and allow cute clothes is really an invention of the modern times and place that used to belong to upper class women who at best did nothing but things that were strictly theirs for some reason by nature, by their gender and by their class, so a privilege. Nowadays to me privilege is to be able to do work that one desires to do and most people want to work. To be absolutely idle to which we in our easy living fantasy dream about, is hopefully just a dream and an impossibility. Those unemployed rarely are happy about their idle existence.

Nature is regularly referred to when talking about women. Women are physically weaker than men and division is made clear what are chores for women. Strength and power are male characteristics physically and mentally which as such is an appalling stereotype and false. Men feel attacked and put down when women enter work that traditionally is labelled for men. This I have experienced many times myself. My work effort as my capabilities are diminished and questioned over and over. Here applies again the strange truth how people do not believe other than their bias and what they think is true. That unchangeable solid truth of theirs is so unwavering it can be changed only by huge amount of proving, maybe not even then. How slowly our world changes even though our technological advancement is rapid. Even those who have high degrees in science to my surprise are very biased what comes to women in science and art. That slowly movable wall strikes as what the fuck is it there for. Such highly educated people who hold dear the world order of theirs where just to have a Ph.D. is enough to tell how knowledgeable, refined, correct and justifiable they are and see their points of views unchangeable and undeniable. Offence is to follow, no doubt, when questioned.

What is hip and cool and why do we pay attention to the at the moment hip and cool phenomenons and trends knowing they do change all the time and the most hip and cool are those who do their thing disregarding the fashion of hip and cool? Do you know what I mean? For example making applications for the sake of making applications is a now-thing, but it is probably over quite soon, because who actually needs them. More important would be to ask why be hip and cool when you can be thoughtful, innovative, active maker, do many things in your life disregarding do they make you a fortune, things that have other kinds of meanings than what they appear outside and not do because it is your place which is decided by others but because you want to.

To my surprise younger generations to me are very often not taught to do basic chores at home at all. If it is so that parents do every day nuisance such dishes and cleaning for their kinds, boys and girls, how does it change our world of work? Will we have maids to do those inconvenient things that are dirty and low, unappreciated work chores? Robots?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/soraya-chemaly/what-exactly-does-its-a-mans-world-mean_b_7454660.html?utm_hp_ref=tw ”It’s a shame our society generally fails to teach girls to have higher expectations and boys not to feel threatened by their realization. The worst part about people’s responses to the suggestion that we find ways to address women’s needs in public spaces was the reality of many women’s low expectations and desire not to offend anxious and angry men.”

What makes an action movie masterpiece?

It can be argued just as anything and is. As it is questionable for many is the genre of action movies in its variety an art form and can it even be talked about in critical academic context for example cultural influences of action movies, what is important, valuable, interesting and worthy of research and looking into. In a time of mass production of movies to rise cultural discourse about action movies may raise a question of what for, they all seem very much alike, work from an entertainment factory where muscles and fast cars are getting the most attention, use of power, fire arms and force of a solitude man interests a wide audience. The visual information in movies does have a massive role. What kind of impact, one can guess. To me action movies at their best represent an image of our time especially those movies which clearly pay attention to political conflicts, solving environmental and humanitarian catastrophes and showing way to the future. Interesting is the machinery behind blockbuster movies which seems paying attention to making the most profit and the contrast there can be between the world view of such movies as Alien and The Terminator and Hollywood, the plastic, entertaining Hollywood.

The true events in world history have been effectively used in many action films, true intentions, true motives which have caused wars and conflicts speculating the rest. My interest lies in the action where oppression, wrongdoings and ill intentions of politicians and business men are fought back and there are actual results: the bad guys lose and get punished accordingly. Maybe action movies reflect our hope for real action men and women who do instead of having speeches, to explain their success. Best of the genre in my opinion mix science fiction, future vision, pay attention to gender roles and today’s world ideological and economical mess, telling our future prospects if we do not wise up. Terminator 1 begins with a scene where cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) emerges naked from the future to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) future mother of John Connor. At the same time to stop the plan of machines’ to assassin Sarah Connor Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) finds his way through a time machine to save Sarah.

To answer to the question what makes an action movie masterpiece is quite similar as what makes any movie a masterpiece, a classic, image of its time and mentality, morals, events, what it is to be human living this time and think what future will bring. Masterpieces are of course difficult to define as they are complex packed with meaning references and questions, also some answers. Visually and artistically masterpiece has to fill criteria of excellence, excellence that serves the story and philosophy of that movie pushing boundaries of what action film can be, what a movie can be and tell. It is faithful to the message, giving and telling something essential of our time and of us. As Terminator is very much a mainstream kind of series of movies, it is extraordinary in its preciseness and  visuals that strike to tell true kind of story.

Other reason why Terminator 1 and 2 and Alien movies interest me as works of art and important movies of our time is that the one who wants to save the world and works her ass off to do so is a woman. Romance is cut to the minimum or erased completely. There is only the mission to save something worth while and there is no other way, threat is so big and it is a nuclear war, destruction of mankind and AI having control and power. It is not obsessed, it is necessary to act and start to think our responsibility for saving life on earth. The meaning of these action-science fiction movies is not to bring on fire arms and show endless killing. They are to show what one person can do.

Built from the street?

I idealize prostitutes, sex workers. Should I defend myself for it? In movies they are often the most beautiful characters, flamboyant, fleshy, flashy, loud, hurt, always getting up from some deep hole, beaten, spat at, surviving. Cars and prostitutes, clothes and postures, bending, asses, legs, shoes, gestures, suggestions, make-up, fed up faces, police stations. Prostitutes the individuals and persons, strength, misery, injustice, choice, fast lived life, death which somehow is around the corner. In my mind there is an image of unshameful femininity and not at all defeated, but standing on high heels. To me it seems I am not alone with this. They, those women, hookers are well represented in our culture, talked about, shouted out, shouted at. We are curious about those beings who sell their bodies. Generally prostitutes are seen the lowest of the low, victims and drug users and in this country hookers are not visible other than in movies and on TV. So they as people are kind of real life imaginary creatures, secrets and whispers, forbidden and wanted. In movies prostitute is a common character. They light up the police station and the dark alley, brothels are colorful hideaways where people can anonymously get whipped.
Whores are interesting people to whom happen things that normal working people may not face. The ordinary and normal can be appalled by it. Prostitutes look like fairy tales, fairy tale figures, fantasies themselves fulfilling fantasies of others. It is terrible to call someone a whore. It is terrible to end up a whore against will of one’s own. Much is emphasized on the horror of prostitution, brutality of sex trade. Abolishing the business hardly is possible, hypocrisy on the other hand makes lives of prostitutes difficult. Contradiction is curious as I see prostitutes are much imitated in entertainment, fashion photography = advertising. Dangerous living is a luring image, a fantasy which is the imitated possession of prostitutes, their wealth, a lifestyle.
