How much civilization is born from tradition, religion, idea of good and resentment for bad? We think we live in civilized world, we think we know what it is to be civilized. We can to some extent behave as civilized, we learn to respect other humans, have manners and make conversation. To have decency and education make an assumption those things lead to having civilized people. It is of course good assumption and we should expect people to know what is civilized and what is not, how to apply civilization gained and when to rebel against it. Education of heart and mind as those both are needed to make a civilized person can still be hard to find which leads me thinking from where does civilization begin? Kindness for some reason does not get one the high status needed as an educated mind does, reason and knowing are the most valued assets in our society. How do we measure civilization now when we can have all we dream of having? In a world where ownership has been a key to having education it has been a closely linked thought that money can buy an educated mind, buy status, assumption can be that sophistication follows when you can buy things, that wealth and bourgeois life style mean knowledgeable and refined humanity. It is in the expressions, in style, way to walk and talk. There is a strong us and them in the picture and history of classes which has meant those who a more civilized than those others and they don’t mix. How does sophistication fit in such world really one can ask.
